Various Artists "Explosive Rock Steady" Amalgamated Records ? AMG 2002 UK 1st pressing.
Compilation Vinyl, LP released in 1968.
The vinyl has one or two marks which have no impact on the music. The LP plays through beautifully on my stereo - no hop, stick or jump. The sleeve shows minimal signs of wear (apart from some slight staining to the back) and is also in great condition with no writing or tears. The spine is intact and completely legible. Amalgamated Records was the foundation of what would later become Joe Gibbs Music. Founded in 1966 by Joel Gibson (a.k.a. Joe Gibbs) at his radio and TV repair shop on Beeston Street in Kingston, Jamaica, Amalgamated became one of the fastest-rising labels in correlation with the uprising of Rocksteady music. Though the credits almost always read "Produced By Joel Gibson", production was actually handled by Lee "Scratch" Perry for the first two years, followed by Winston "Niney" Holness who took over for the following six years after the fact. The Amalgamated name ran in Jamaica until 1968 (coincidentally around the time of Lee Perry's departure due to improper compensation practices on behalf of Gibbs), but remained intact in England due to their subsequent distribution relationships with Island Records and Trojan/B&C Records until 1971.
