Description
MEM: MOVIE & MUSIC MEMORABILIA
An original UK Vinyl LP by The Beatles entitled "Sgt Pepper" issued on Parlophone PMC 7027 (Mono Pressing) in 1967, this being an ultra rare copy with a "Fourth Proof" Sleeve. The "Fourth Proof" was presumably intended as a full-sized "trial run" to see how it looked & what corrections were needed. It was issued in error at some later date, perhaps due to an acute shortage of Sleeves.
Apart from the intriunsic rarity (only a handful of copies have surfaced in over 40 years) there are several, as yet poorly documented differences between the "Proof" Sleeve & the finished/released product. The Proof "centrefold" Photo is still in its "original" state ie, prior to airbrushing & final colouring. The pale faces/straggly moustaches/white lips & bleached (over-lit) Sgt Pepper outfits are in marked contrast to the skilfully "airbrushed" & coloured finished product. The untouched original photo of George Harrison for example is particularly striking with its unhealthy "mottled red" neck & "decapitated head" effect, caused in part by the harsh lighting on the neckerchief (early "corrected" copies do not look great in this area but the Proof Sleeve is much worse). Another readily noticeable difference is the bright yellow "background" as compared to the darker more "orangey" hue of the finished/released product (each subsequent printing of the background tended to become more & more orange). A really rare find !
