Description
Wow, check this out: a seven inch Victor announced record, #1258, circa 1903. The Victor Male Chorus performs Verdi's familiar "Anvil Chorus", with orchestra. Very fine version, quite enjoyable. There is a bad spot at the edge (third picture) before the announcement, after that plays fine with surface noise. The guide book says Victor used this style label from May 1903 to January 1904. Price was 50 cents, same as Edison charged at that time for a 2 minute cylinder record. In 1903, many more people had cylinder machines than disc phonographs. This is early disc history, very rare, if this is what you like, do not pass it up!
