Collectors, here is a fantastic historical disc, Victor Red Seal 12 inch #88065. Legendary soprano (Dame) Nellie Melba sings the then popular song "Good-bye", with orchestra. The record is in fine shape and plays well, with some surface noise.
The back sticker on the blank side shows record issuance on July 1, 1906, with a price of three dollars! Please understand, that was a HUGE amount of money in 1906 for four minutes worth of entertainment. Disc phonographs were selling well at that time from Victor and Columbia, but most people had an Edison cylinder machine, where 2 minute cylinders cost 35 cents. That's a big difference. Of course, this record would match the inside horn Victrola, which was introduced in 1906 for $200!! You get the idea. I would think not many of these records were sold, and how many are still around 115 years later in good condition?? This would make a great addition to your antique record collection. Sensible buy it now price given what I have here, go for it!!!
