Vintage 1981 The Doors Promotional Hits Kit 4 45rpm Records Box Set Jim Morrison ____________________________________
Condition: Outstanding Condition Box Set! The records are in mint condition and remain unplayed. The Box Set cover is excellent, displaying only slight age spots. The included note and advertisement are nearly flawless, as evidenced by the detailed photos provided. Although the letter from Burt Stein exhibits some light yellowing, it's so faint that it didn't register in the images. The sleeves have a gentle curl due to being housed in a box that was initially crafted a tad too small. Rest assured, you'll be delighted with this acquisition! It has been in the possession of a dedicated collector for three decades, consistently handled and packaged with meticulous care. Purchase with confidence from a seller committed to showcasing actual item details rather than relying on stock photos. Take a moment to peruse all the images, and feel free to reach out with any inquiries. Thank you for your interest!
The history behind the Hits Kit Promotional Box Set: In 1980/1981, a Doors revival captivated a fresh wave of Doors enthusiasts, marking a resurgence for the iconic band.
The 1980 Greatest Hits LP, a compilation album by the Doors, played a pivotal role in this revival. Released alongside the film Apocalypse Now the previous year, the album opened doors to a new audience—individuals from a generation unfamiliar with the Doors during their initial heyday. Notably, the compilation achieved remarkable success, ranking among the highest-selling compilations of all time, with a staggering 5,000,000 combined CD and vinyl sales in the United States alone. Not coincidentally Danny Sugerman's bestselling Jim Morrison biography, No One Here Gets Out Alive also came out the same year which added to the fervor of the music.
A letter addressed to radio station programmers from Burt Stein, the Vice President of Promotions at Elektra, was included with the set. Stein expressed gratitude to the radio programmers for their unwavering support, citing the sale of eighteen million Doors singles. The letter emphasized the unprecedented phenomenon of the Doors experiencing enhanced sales and popularity, thanks to the continued backing and airplay from the stations. The enclosed records, according to Stein, were a token of appreciation and a celebration of this exceptional milestone.
The Hits Kit Promotional Box Set is comprised of the box set, the Burt Stein letter, a "from" card, a 45 record sized color advertisement for the Doors catalog, and four 45rpm records, with three housed in Elektra-Asylum Spun Gold Sleeves and the fourth in the vintage Elektra picture sleeve initially released for the Greatest Hits LP.
Songs inside the box set include: Light My FIre Love Me Two Times
Hello, I Love You Touch Me
Riders On The Storm Love Her Madly
People Are Strange Not To Touch the Earth
