David Ian "Joe" Jackson (born 11 August 1954) is an English musician and singer-songwriter.[1]
He subsequently relocated from England to New York and then to Berlin. He recorded 19 studio albums and garnered 5 Grammy Award nominations in a career extending from 1979 to today. After years of studying music and playing clubs, Jackson's first release, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" became a hit in 1979. This was followed by a number of new wave singles before he moved to more jazz-inflected pop music and had a Top 10 hit in 1982 with "Steppin' Out". He has also composed classical music.
Look Sharp! is the debut album by Joe Jackson, released in 1979. The album featured one of Jackson's most famous songs, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?," as well as other singles, such as "Sunday Papers" and "One More Time."
The cover, featuring a pair of white shoes, ranked number 22 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest album covers of all time.
I'm the Man is Joe Jackson's second album, released in October 1979.
Taken from the album, "It's Different for Girls", was his biggest UK chart single, peaking at number five in the UK Singles Chart.
On the album cover, Jackson appears in the guise of a particular type of petty criminal known in the United Kingdom as a spiv, a character who, in Jackson's own words, "always wears a gross polka-dot tie and a pencil-thin mustache, and he's always trying to sell you a watch or something like that real cheap. I think people always want to put a label on what you do, so I thought I'd be one step ahead of them and invent one myself - spiv rock."
I'm the Man was also released as a 7" album (5 - 7" singles) in a package as 'The 7" Album' and included a poster. (This is what you're getting!)
Beat Crazy is the third album by Joe Jackson, released in October 1980, and credited to the Joe Jackson Band. It was a relative disappointment commercially, peaking outside theTop 40 in both the UK and the United States, with its singles failing to chart. One reason for the reduced sales in the U.S. may have been that the group did not tour to support it there. Nevertheless, the Joe Jackson Band was successful and toured extensively. This would be the last studio album released by the Joe Jackson Band's original line-up until 2003's Volume 4.
