Description
Some records do not just capture a song. They capture a whole look, a whole room, a whole moment in nightlife culture. “Fade To Grey” is one of those records.
Released in 1981, this was the breakthrough Visage single and one of the defining statements of the early synth-pop era. Cold, stylish, and instantly recognizable, it helped push the New Romantic movement out of London clubs and into international pop consciousness. The track is built around one of the great minimalist synth hooks of the decade, but part of its staying power comes from the atmosphere, spoken French passages, icy vocals, and that unmistakable sense of chic detachment that made it feel futuristic at the time and still magnetic now.
Visage was never just a standard band. It was a true scene-project, with Steve Strange at the center and major players from Ultravox and Magazine involved in shaping the sound. That gives this single an extra layer of appeal for collectors who follow the broader web of early 80s UK synth and art-pop. “Moon Over Moscow” on the flip side only adds to that mood, leaning further into the cool Euro-night drive feel that makes these early Visage records so collectible.
This original French Polydor pressing has the classic picture sleeve and the strong visual design the title deserves. A sharp piece for anyone building out synth-pop, New Romantic, minimal wave, or essential early-80s 45s.
Playback is NM-, clean and strong.
NOTE: Please consider that your audio equipment blows mine away and the record will invariably sound better on your system. Also, I do not have the ability to professionally clean records and give one static brush before ONE sampling, then back into the sleeve and jacket. My goal is to give you all you need for a transparent purchasing experience.
