Description

"STUDY IN BLUE"
The Hour of Charm All Girl Orchestra

Today, Vogue picture discs are collected for their novelty.  However, when they were originally issued, they were meant to compete with popular music offered by the major record companies.  Due to their higher retail price, lack of hits, and other difficulties, Vogue went into bankruptcy in 1947 just over a year from when it released it's first records during May of 1946.  During this brief run, less that 70 different records are believed to have been issued.

Some of these picture records were issued in sets that included a custom storage book.  One of these sets, which is being offered in this auction, was "Study in Blue" by The Hour of Charm All Girl Orchestra.  Like the picture sleeves of a later era, these records are frequently found without the cover.  In this case, however, the set is complete.  Here's what's included:

  1. R725 - Hour of Charm All Girl Orchestra
    Side A: "Alice Blue Gown"
Side B: "Rhapsody In Blue" - Part I

Condition: V- (the colors on both sides of this record are vibrant and unfaded; the disc is free of cracks or chips;  there are several small pressing bumps on both sides of the record and numerous scuffs, scratches, and digs that may affect the play).

  2. R726 - Hour of Charm All Girl Orchestra
    Side A: "Blue Skies"
Side B: "Rhapsody In Blue" - Part II

Condition: V (the colors on both sides of this record are vibrant and unfaded; the disc is free of cracks, chips, and delaminations; there are numerous scuffs and scratches that may affect the play).

  3. Storage Book for R725/R726
Dark blue outside cover with a light blue spine and gold lettering on the front cover.  The inside of the front cover has some liner notes on the orchestra and the inside of the back cover has a photo of them.

Condition: V (the spine has some fraying and spots of fading; there is a name and address written on the inside front cover; there are two small tears at the upper right corner of the inside back cover; the first sleeve has a 5" split on the bottom seam).

Grading
All of our records are visually, but conservatively, graded.  For 78's we use the traditional grades as follows:

E+  A choice copy with no wear whatsoever.

E    Virtually no trace of groove wear with only minimal traces of use and handling.

E-   An above average record with a slight degree of groove wear, but not enough to seriously detract from its audio quality.

V+  Obviously well played, but still enjoyable.  Noticeable graying in the grooves.

V    Very well worn, but listenable.  Expect the surface noise to be significant.  There may be some stressed grooves.

V-   Wiped out.  Played with the right equipment, however, you may still derive a certain degree of pleasure from a record in this condition.

   Possibly unplayable.
