Vulcan – Much Too Young/Action Man (Epic, 1973) (S EPC 1763) (Ex/Ex)

The jury is still out on whether or not Vulcan ever existed as a band. It’s more likely they were a brief name-change for Love And Tears, as a band called Love And Tears also released the Slade-like-via-Small Faces and The Who ‘Much Too Young’/‘Action Man’ in 1973, and, as ‘Love And Tears’ also released three other singles: “Needles And Pins”, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Lullaby”, "Love Of Yesterday", and an album, it’s more likely that they were the real deal. It was quite common place in the 1970s for records to released more than once and under different names in an attempt to have a hit; Pussyfoot’s ‘The Way You Do It, was also released in the same year (1976) and on the same label (EMI) as ‘Ooh Na Na Hiya’ by Donna Jo, but it’s the same record, as is the case with Vulcan and Love And Tears!?!

Below are the credits for both singles, which reveal Giorgio Moroder as the composer of the B-side ‘Action Man’ (a song Giorgio himself had previously released under the name of ‘Spinach’ in 1971, proving what a “waste not, want not” world it was in 1970s
