American post-punks Wall Of Voodoo never really got the recognition they deserved. This collection from 1983 shows a band that should have been every bit as influential and well known as DEVO or Gang Of Four. The band might well fit in to a genre, but the fact is, they don't really sound quite like anyone else. The scratchy guitars of Marc Moreland are certainly minimal, but jump from tense and threatening to a playful jangle at a moments notice. The album comes from something of a transitional period for the band. Their original vocalist Stan Ridgeway had left and would be replaced by Andy Prieboy and drummer Joe Nanini had also left. Museums is effectively a collection of demos and a statement of intent at the band's determination to carry on. It might not sound like the the band's original line up, but there's something equally charming and disarming still at the heart of the band. It's hard not to fall in love with their quirky approach that surfaces all over the album on tracks like 'In My Night' and 'Deep In The Jungle'.
