Description

WALTER "SHAKEY" HORTON WITH HOT COTTAGE

1973/Cdn/London NAS 13526…. here's a clean original Canadian pressing of this rare Canadian blues lp, the cover is in solid clean VG+ to VG++ condition, the left side corners have been dinged and have wear, light corner creases on back, there is light seam wear on the top left side, bottom seam has light spotty wear, a few light creases on outer edges, very light shelf/ring wear front and back no splits or delete, the vinyl is in strong EX to M- condition, there is a small sleeve scuff and some light minor storage stains from the inner sleeve, the vinyl plays clean with little noise and I suspect it has been seldom played as it has a newish appearance. The labels are clean and only show a couple of very light spindle marks. A clean copy of this very rare Canadian lp! Please check my auctions for other psych, folk and rock lp's, good luck and thanks for looking!

Hot Cottage, based out of Edmonton, Alberta Canada has been in existence since 1970. It is an extremely versatile group that is at home playing everything from delta style to big band blues; from swing to slow blues and from blues samba to barn-burning boogie. The group plays both re-arranged and self-written pieces, with something for everyone. It is no wonder Hot Cottage appeals to a wide age group.

Hot Cottage began its roots as a three piece group, influenced by such blues greats as Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Albert King, B.B. King, Otis Rush, Memphis Slim to name only a few. They also began integrating the punchy sounds of the British blues explosion during the sixties. The Cream, John Mayall, Peter Green, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and a host of others all had an influence on them. The group is noted for their original compositions as well as their ability to present totally reworked versions of pieces written by other artists.

In 1972, Willie Dixon and the Chicago Allstars toured through western Canada, with Big Walter (Shakey) Horton on harmonica. Thanks to Holger Peterson, who would go on to form Stony Plain Records and become a legend in his own right, Hot Cottage teamed up with Walter Horton to record a 45 rpm record “Joe Chicago”. Later that year, Holger brought Walter back to town to lay down tracks for a full LP, which was first released by London Records as: “Walter Shakey Horton with Hot Cottage”. Shakey Horton has since passed away, but has been written up in blues anthologies for his important influence and innovation in blues history.

///GRADING///

MINT: as stated with no defects

M- OR NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean

EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much

VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition, I also play grade the records on high end equipment and will give an honest play grade as well as visual grade, considering the number of records I buy on line my grading is very conservative and fair.
