ARTIST - John Rydgren and Others TITLE - We Are A Peculiar People LABEL - Lutheran Records CATALOG NO - None
RECORD GRADING - EX TO NM COVER GRADING - VG(strong)
The cover is a strong VG, it's all intact without splits, just some age stains.
The record looks NM without scratches, high gloss, has some minor crackles in spots, when you clean the dust off, it sounds even better.
Unknown private pressing from Lutheran Records, circa 1967. It starts off with a spoken word dedication to the soldiers in Viet Nam followed by a small sermon. Then there is a whimsical jazzy lounge piano song about "finding yourself." It has a cool sounding flute in the background. It's an unidentified artist. (Side Two closes with the same artist and a different song, with the same jazz lounge sound) Then the rest of Side One flips back and forth between musical interludes and spoken word, talking about the "generation gap" and racial issues of the time.
Side Two opens up with a clip from A Little Help With My Friends by the Beatles, and continues the same style as side one, but Side Two is a bit cooler. It has a section of Silhouette Segments with John Rydgren in the midst. Someone also mentions John Ylvisaker at the beginning, I'm wondering if he appears on some of the folk song interludes. Also played are snippets from garage rock bands and another Beatles song. A young woman in one part announces "We will hand out balloons, and you can blow them up or whatever else you do with balloons."
As I mentioned before the album closes with the same unknown artist as Side One with a jazzy lounge piano and flute song.
Interesting stuff, and collectors of Silhouette Segments should be looking out for this as this record on it's own is unknown.
There are pictures of the Beatles, Silhouette Segments, and the word Groovy in the montage on the cover, giving this a cool look. There are so many pictures on the cover it will take some studying to see it all!
When I grade a record, I attempt to listen to each one. Sometimes, I will not listen to an entire LP, but will hear key tracks or areas that may show wear to render an objective opinion. VJ'S VINYL GRADING SYSTEM:

If graded Mint - never used, once a record is opened, the top you can get is mint minus.
If graded Mint Minus or Near Mint (NM) - A great record, one or two fine hairline scuffs, sounds flawless. A mint minus record can "play" mint. Covers are new looking, may have shrink wrap.
If graded Excellent (EX) - Can have faint hairline scuffs that do not affect play. Can have very minor infrequent crackling. Minor bumps in the cover.
If graded Very Good plus (VG+) - Scuffs can be more prevalent, with a little more surface noise. If it visually has more scuffs but plays great, I will note that. Still, a very fine and playable copy. Covers have minor age and shelf wear.
If graded Very Good (VG) - Can have lots of hairline scuffs, and maybe one or two scratches. Surface noise is more prevalent with some popping in spots. Covers have more extensive age and shelf wear. Minor splits.
If graded Very Good minus (VG minus) - More in the way of scratches and surface noise is NOT infrequent. Still, a viable copy. Covers may have splits.
If graded Good plus (G+) - only reserved for a very rare or popular record. Very noisy, maybe some skips, scratches are evident. Covers are trashed.
If graded STILL SEALED - I will grade the vinyl as "still sealed." That means it's probably mint minus because I do not know if there were any factory defects.
If reported to have Hairline scuffs - light yet visible. Cannot be felt with the skin of your finger.
If stated to have Scratches - Can be felt.
If reported, Age wear - on a cover is either fading or yellowing.
