Description

HERE'S one of the great "Pop" concert records of the 1920s, PAUL WHITEMAN AND HIS ORCHESTRA playing Robert Katscher's "WHEN DAY IS DONE" and pianist Rube Bloom's big hit, "SOLILOQUY."  


"When Day Is Done" unfolds like a symphony, with a slow, expressive movement, a "Jazz" movement - with trumpeter HENRY BUSSE taking one of his most famous solos, backed by pizzicato bass - and a howling quick-step for a satisfying finish.  


"Soliloquy" is witty and lovely, with Whiteman's two-piano team of RAY TURNER and HARRY PERELLA doing a superb job of interpreting Bloom's piece, backed by the mighty orchestral forces on hand.  


Whiteman's band was the finest popular-music organization on the planet, with virtuosos in every chair.  They set the standard for dance and swing bands for thirty years!  


This original 1927 twelve-inch "Scroll" Victor 35828 is in swell EE- condition.  Plays great!

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care.
