ITEM: Scarce, seldom seen on eBay. "The Chicago Sound", by the Wilbur Ware Quintet. Original 1957 USA LP Pressing. Released on the Riverside Records Deep Groove label, catalog number RLP 12-252, Spectrosonic High-Fidelity. NOTE: THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1957 PRESSING; IT IS NOT AN IMPORT OR LATER REISSUE. Blue label with silver print, mike and 2 reels logo at top center, "Bill Grauer Productions - New York City" at bottom center.
COMMENTS/CONDITION: This LP came from a private collection - it is not a beat up item bought at a yard sale. The record was visually graded, and was test played. Grading is according to Goldmine Standards. If you are not familiar with that system, please go to the Goldmine web site and read the grading details BEFORE YOU BID.
Vinyl Condition: Side 1 is a strong VG+ condition with a nice glossy luster. There are no warps, deep scratches, cracks, chips, or groove wear. On close inspection under a bright light source, a few light scuffs and small hairline marks can be detected, which are cosmetic, and do not affect playback or enjoyment of the recordings.Side 2 also has a nice glossy luster with no warps, cracks, chips, or groove wear. It is graded VG to VG- condition due to three feel-able scratches close together. These begin approximately half way through track 1 and continue through most of track 3. They do not cause any skips or groove lock, but they do create moderate clicks which are heard over the music, on each revolution.
Other than these, on my older system the rest of both sides played quietly with no harsh surface noise, skips or groove lock. NOTE: Sound quality will vary from system to system. The above comments are included strictly as reference, and are not a statement as to the experience you will have with your equipment.
Both labels are in very good, clean condition with no peeling edges, rips, writing, or stains. The center hole is perfectly round and shows no signs of repeated playing. The label color on side A appears to be lighter on the left side than the right, probably a misprint during production.
Inner sleeve is a generic white paper issue.
Cover is in VG+ condition, with no rips, crushed corners, or tape. The spine is not damaged and is easily readable. Seams are strong with no splits. Laminated front cover colors are crisp and glossy, even after 55 years! Cover photo and graphics are clear and sharp. This is NOT a cut-out - NO drill holes, notches, or clipped corners. The corner tips have light shelf wear.
The back cover is also in very good solid condition. There is a small paper label at top right, two dates written in pencil at top left, age tanning, and chipping around the edges of the paper overlay.
I have not cleaned the vinyl, labels, or cover. Most serious collectors have their own methods that they prefer to use.
To compensate for the surface marks on Side 2, I have listed this vintage Jazz collectible at a VERY attractive low price, with NO RESERVE! Do Not Delay...Place Your Bid Today!
