WILLIE NELSON
In 1959 !
Looking over Willie Nelson's career, you won't find many records as early as this. In fact, Willie claims that this song, "The Storm Has Just Begun" was the first song he ever wrote. This obscure 45 was recorded originally for "D" Records back in 1959! It was Willie's second recording session!
Imagine, this was before he had even written the song "Night Life." Willie was living in Pasadena, Texas (near Houston) at the time and ran into 'Pappy' Daly who was starting up a new company called D Records. He signed up Willie and this was their first record together. Over the next few months, 'Pappy' would turn down one of Willie's songs, saying it wasn't country enough for his label. The song rejected? "Night Life." It was written as an autobiographical song when Willie was driving from his apartment to the Esquire Club where he was a regular.
Pappy would release this pairing of "The Storm Has Just Begun" and "Man With The Blues" twice on D. It's one of the most elusive of all of Willie's early records and is a great pair of songs.
