Description

Very rare British jazz vinyl LP by the Jamaican-born saxophonist. Original Tempo pressing from 1959.

Both record and sleeve are in good condition with some obvious signs of wear and tear. There is a light crease, small tear and minor stain on the front cover which you'll see from the photos (we’ve graded the sleeve as ‘Good’) and the record has many superficial light scratches which mostly do not affect play. The record has obviously been played a lot (its appearance suggest a 'Good' grading but it sounds better than it looks). There is a degree of surface noise and crackle in the background but it does not detract from the excellent music which emerges loud, clear and vibrant. There is little or no distortion of the music, the mono sound is at times quite stunning and has amazing presence (we suggest it's best played with a mono cartridge or with your amplifier switched to mono). It’s a really enjoyable listen. The vinyl is a deep groove pressing by Decca and plays nicely; there’s crackle in the background but no skipping or jumping, just some clicks and pops here and there. And what a really inventive, swinging tenor soloist Gaynair was - this is seriously good British hard bop jazz and the album is up there with the excellent records made at the time by contemporaries Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott. He is accompanied by Terry Shannon (piano), Kenny Napper (bass) & Bill Eyden (drums). Recorded and produced by Tony Hall, August 1959.
