Wishbone Ash

'Pilgrimage'

MCA, UK, 1971

MDKS 8004

WONDERFUL ALBUM from this British progressive into hard rock institution. The band were firing on all six cylinders when they recorded this album with songs that would go on to become classics in the Ash cannon. Tracks such as 'Vas Dis' (a brilliant instrumental), 'The Pilgrim' (featuring a classic elongated jam with twin guitars on stun mode) and 'Where Were You Tomorrow' a great rollicking boogie recorded live in Leicester.

Of course the big, certainly most fondly remembered track, is 'Jailbait', a raunchy twelve bar shuffle complete with incredible twin lead guitar work that appears to go on forever. There's no getting away from the fact that the Ash, during their early seventies hey day were the band to watch with both Andy Powell and Ted Turner amongst the best guitarists that the UK had to offer. That they walked away with yearly music press awards is no surprise and further succes in the US market consoldated that impact. I saw them live many times and their brand of precision hard progressive rock, twelve bar blues and electric folk was always delivered with a sense of accuracy and good humour - an ingredient that cemented their fan appeal no end.

Tough to find original copies these days in such nice condition.

This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
