Another from my personal collection. I am and have been a dedicated collector of UK Beatles vinyl for more than 45 years, and I have accumilated more than 1000 UK Beatles albums alone! I own multiple copies of this album and have all of the matrix variations that I know exist, from 1N through to 7N matrix endings, and the various combinations that exist. My prime interest has always been the audio quality and from my personal experience, I have found that the earliest possible pressings, i.e earliest pressed from the original masters produces the best and most vibrant audio experience possible on vinyl that can not be surpassed on any other format! This album on offer is impossibly rare and scarce to find, firstly for its unbeleivable incredible top condition and because this has barely ever been played, (scarce to find on a 48 year old Beatles album), and secondly because this is one of the very earliest to be released in the UK in 1963! There are very important charactoristics that make this unique from the many later pressings that exist. I will endevour to give a full and detailed description about these bellow in my description! Above all this album is probably one of the best sounding original mono copies that I have heard and beleive me i have heard many many copies of this album! Play tested at very loud volume on my Garrard 401 turntable using a dedicated mono cartridge, this plays with true excellence, a real deep bassey feel, all hand claps, percussion and vocals are clear and unbelevably vibrant throughout an exceptional sounding copy very, very rare!
Unique Charactoristics!
The first important thing to note is that this is totally original and complete. This album has been in my possesion since the mid sixties and has always been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover to prevent any ringware or damage.,, this is how I have always stored my records!
The original Garrod and Lofthouse flipback cover is the earliest possible issue, features the slightly mottled laminated front (only 1st issues), with the four images of the Beatles underexposed photo with only half their faces showing (only found like this on the earliest press)Later press covers have this corrected the laminate is smoother and the images show less shading! Also note the large flipbacks at the rear, very simular to early E.Day covers (later issues do not feature these larger flipbacks) The title track ''You Really Got A Hold On Me'' is also miss titled ''You Really Gotta Hold On Me'' only early issues and later corrected!.
The 1st issue and earliest possible labels for this pressing are the rough textured labels (also later smoother type labels)These Feature 'The Parlophone Co...'' rim text (only early issues, later feature 'The Gramophone Co..'') Note (no) 'Sold In The UK...'' text across the labels (only original issues) Features the M.T. tax code, in line with the correct year of issue (later press features 'k.t'.) Also the title track ''You Really Got A Hold On Me'' is also miss titled ''You Really Gotta Hold On Me'' only early issues and later corrected!. Finally the credits for the track 'Money' was miss credited to ''Jobete'', also only found on the earliest 1st issues (Soon corrected and credited to 'Dominion Belinda') Only the earliest issues feature -1N matrix endings on both sides on the run off grooves (only 1st UK press) All of these unique important charactoristics make this very sought after being one of the earliest possible pressings available for this album!!
With The Beatles is the second studio album by the English rock group The Beatles!!.
It was released on 22 November 1963 on Parlophone, and was recorded four months after the band's debut Please Please Me. The album features eight original compositions (seven by Lennon/McCartney, as well as George Harrison's first composition) and six covers (mostly of Motown and R&B hits). Most of the songs from the album were released in the United States as Meet The Beatles! on 20 January 1964, and the remaining that were not, featured on their next US album, The Beatles' Second Album!. The album was also released in November 1963 by Capitol Records in Canada, with a slight change to the title Beatlemania! With The Beatles. This release has the distinction of being the first Beatles LP released in North America, pre-dating the Capitol US Meet The Beatles! and the Vee Jay Records Introducing... The Beatles LPs by 2 months!.
The LP had advance orders of a half million and sold another half million by September 1965—making it the second album to sell a million copies in the UK!!
With The Beatles stayed at the top of the charts for 21 weeks, displacing Please Please Me, so that The Beatles occupied the top spot for 51 consecutive weeks. It even reached number eleven in the "singles charts" (because at the time UK charts counted all records sold, regardless of format). EMI Australia did not receive the cover art, and used a caricature of the band in a similar style to the black and white photograph on other releases. The Beatles were unaware of this until fans showed them the cover during their only Australian tour, and informed the EMI publicity people they were not pleased with the substitution!!
The Matrix.

The vinyl.
This is of the thicker heavier and more robust type of vinyl with deeper grooves than the later pressings which were more flimsier THE VINYL LAYS PERFECTLY FLAT ON THE TURNTABLE!!!!!
On visual inspection the vinyl retains its original deep sheen and still looks very tidy, it is quite obvious that this vinyl has barely ever been played in my opinion! Looking under strong light there are in fact (very) few surface marks\scuffs only and possibly sleeve removal, nothing that would cause any loud clicks or pops that I heard on my system! Amaizingly I can't see any audio sounding marks at all!
The Audio Quality
I have carefully listened and played this through a few times track for track at very loud volume on a top system, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge,, This vinyl produces cristal clear and vibrant bassey feel from the moment that the needle hits the playing surface, I can not emphisise enough at how good this sounded on my system! The audio is awesome througout this played through stunningly clear and vibrant without any loud clicks or pops during the audio and certainly (no) skips or jumps at all! Amaizingly there was very minimal background noise even between tracks this was exceptionaly quiet! I would say probably one of the best sounding 1st pressings that I have heard! This is very, very rare for a 1st pressing!
Please note! that although i never heard any major problems at all (I would class myself as highly criticle Please see my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normaly get it right)
I always add this disclamer! This vinyl is the original and 47 years old and would have been played on a 47 year old system there is of course evidence that this has been played but it is my personal opinion that this vinyl has had only very, very minimal play only and in my opinion barely been played at all, certainly not been played in the last 35 years or so. Importantly this has not been overplayed at all! Please allow for very light static crackle in isolated quiet places perhapes in between some tracks only, remember that this is 47 years old! No loud clicks or pops very rare to find like this!
This album has been stored in a case laying dormant in a case for over 35 years, a build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static crackle/ticks. A constant clean before each play is highly recomended, this will reduce this and will enhance the audio quality.
I would grade the audio very near perfect on my systems this will be hard to surpass!!
The labels
(Rarest to find with the MT taxcodes!!!!)
This features the rough textured yellow and Black Parlophone labels, (only earliest issues) ''recording 1st published..'' and ''Made in Great Britain'' (only 1st UK press) also ''The Parlophone Co....'' is featured around the label rim (only 1st Press) The credit for ''Money'' is ''Jobete'' (very early1st pressings only'') Please do not under estemate the rarety of this vinyl!!!!!Also ''You Really gotta'' miss spelt on side 2.(only 1st press) and was later corrected on later pressings very rare!!!!!!
There is just very minimal spidering can be seen angled to light only! This has obviously been played just a veruy minimal amount of times only. There is little if (no) spindleware the hole is perfectly round!!! !
The record inner sleeve
This is the original ''emitex'' sleeve with ''important'' (only original press) There are no splits or tares although there is some creasing and staining with age. Please note! this is very fragile and is now stored seperately from the vinyl!!!!!
The cover
Another rarety to add to this album is the Garrod & Lofthouse printed laminated flipback cover The earliest and rarest to ever be found has the photo on the front of the four Beatles notice that the photo is under exposed only half of their faces an be seen and are almost totally blacked out on one side! Also features large flipbacks at the rear (only earliest 1st issues) (This rare example is only found on the earliest covers)There are (no) splits or tares! super glossy laminate Amaizingly (No) real creases to mention on the front! very rare. The laminate shows some mottleing which was as released like this from the manufacturer in my opinion! ''With The Beatles'' can clearly be seen at the spine (see Photo) the rear is exceptoionaly clean barely any real staining or dis colouration. rare to find (these normally become very grubby and badly stained) (see photo) The cover holds the UNCORRECTED MISS spelling of the title track ''You really got a hold on me'' THIS SPELLS ''YOU REALLY GOTTA HOLD ON ME'' (ONLY 1ST PRESS) A TRULY RARE EXAMPLE STRONG AND STRAIGHT!!!This must grade at least excellent plus in my opinion if not better!
