British brothers Mark and Clive Ives—known creatively as Woo—began making music together decades ago, but it’s only been within the last decade that they’ve started to receive the critical acclaim they rightly deserve. Their music is largely instrumental (though not always the case) and is perhaps the best example of “mood music” imaginable. Occasionally it’s meditative and sombre, while other records are reflective and hopeful. Comparisons to everyone from Laraaji and Brian Eno to Durutti Column and Penguin Café Orchestra could be made with a varying sense of accuracy.

-------------------------------------------------------

You may previously have encountered Woo's slanted and enchanted 1982 debut, 'Whichever Way Your Are Going You Are Going Wrong' several years ago on Mutant Sounds, who proclaimed it “absolute unsung genius...uncanny and weirdly affecting”, and they certainly weren’t wrong. Both this original private pressing on the band’s own Sunshine Series and the subsequent re-release on Savage Republic’s Independent Projects label are much sought after, but collector's cache of this album is secondary to its musical value - it really is a classic.

Working with acoustic guitars, clarinet, rhythm box, keyboards, singing bowls, pixiephone and subtle processing, this is gloriously DIY, melancholic, avant-garde pastoralism that connects the dots between Pentangle, Gareth Williams, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Dif Juz and Robert Wyatt. From the cool summer breeze of opener, which sounds like a library-rock jam between Basil Kirchin and Vini Reilly, to the trippy, proto-techno drum 'n Moog mantras of ‘Pokhara’ and ‘The Cleaner’, and mystic folk ruminations like ‘C.H. Revisited’ and ‘A Wave’, there isn’t a dull moment.

The second half of the album goes deeper into dubwise Arcadian jazz, Mark Ives’ woozy treated woodwind taking centre-stage, and the one vocal cut, ‘The Attic’, is a stunning instance of wry, painterly, Eno-esque pop.

COMBINED POSTAGE FOR DIFFERENT FORMATS will be invoiced at my discretion:

While I am happy to combine (for example) one or two 7” singles into one package with 12” records, sometimes it isn’t practical (like if you want me to combine one 12” record with three or more 7” records). I do not think that these combinations can be packaged together safely and securely. Therefore these will be invoiced separately as two packages.

IF YOU ARE UNSURE, please contact me before bidding!

---------------------------------------------------

Sorry but I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks of auctions (see below).

---------------------------------------------------

PAYMENT

I would appreciate payment within seven days of the auction's end. If you want to bid on more of our auctions ending a week later please inform me. I will wait and issue a combined invoice at the close of the second week's auctions.

However, I am no longer willing to carry combined transactions beyond two weeks and in these cases would appreciate payment promptly after the close of the second week's auctions.

I am sorry to have to introduce these measures – I always try to be patient and allow buyers to bid on extra auctions and / or delay payment. Unfortunately some buyers have been stretching out transactions to unacceptable lengths so I have no option but to limit 'carried over' transactions to two weeks.
