CONDITION DETAILS Theatre Recording Society Edition sticker on front. Side 1 has two scratches that cause clicks, Sides 2, 3 & 4 play nicely with occasional crackles (play-graded). Double LP. Box looks good; moderate scuffing, slight discoloration with darker discoloration spots, and surface impressions (front/back); surface abrasions near top-left and sticker near and noticeable wear spot near bottom-right on front. Inner-sleeves are original (cardboard with Columbia ads); one seam partially split. Records are housed in generic sleeves. Spine is easy-to-read. All edges show minor wear. All corners show wear. Pressing with black and white cover art. (Not a cut-out.)
ABOUT THE RECORD Waiting For Godot is a play by Samuel Beckett in which two characters, Vladimir (Didi) and Estragon (Gogo), engage in a variety of discussions and encounters while awaiting the titular Godot, who never arrives. Waiting for Godot is Beckett's translation of his own original French-language play, En attendant Godot, and is subtitled (in English only) "a tragicomedy in two acts". The play had its Broadway premiere at the John Golden Theatre in April 1956, with Bert Lahr as Estragon, E. G. Marshall as Vladimir, Alvin Epstein as Lucky, and Kurt Kasznar as Pozzo and Directed by Herbert Berhof. The New York showing of the play prompted discussions of the play being an allegory. One reviewer, Henry Hewes of the Saturday Review, identified Godot as God, Pozzo as a capitalist-aristocrat, and Lucky as labour-proletarian. This prompted Beckett to issue a rare statement, stating that the reaction was based on a misconception of the play. To Beckett, the play tries not to be able to be defined. The New York showing of the play was well-received with critics. Brooks Atkinson of The New York Times praised Lahr for his performance as Estragon.
