Watermelon Whispers
 / South American Fox Trot

Okeh Records #1041

This is a very rare 78rpm of "Watermelon Whispers" written by George Hamilton Green, issued on the Okeh Records label and released in 1918.  George and Joe were brothers who were known as the "Masters of the Xylophone" they had another brother Lew who was a percussionist. The three Green brothers were the original sound music crew for the first three Walt Disney cartoons. From 1918 to early 1920 the Okeh record label used the silhouette of a "North American Indian" on their labels. There were two early Okeh series to use the Indian head: the 1000 series and the 4000 series. There were probably about 200 different Indian label singles released in total. They are rare today. The shellac of this 92 year old record is in very good plus condition with scratches and surface marks. The sound quality is very good on both sides with some light popping. The label is in very good condition with fading and spindle wear.  Deadwax information is impressed  217a 1041A       230c 1041B.
