Description

This is their first live recording, 1/72, edited parts of which were on their second album, I Sing the Body Electric. Band is Josef Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Miroslav Vitous, Eric Gravatt, and Dom Um Romao. There are synths but Zawinul is mostly kicking an electric piano with fierce distortion. The rhythm section is not exactly (or should I say routinely) funky, giving these jams a more intense jazz feel than later albums. Still intense. Sides are mostly medleys of songs on first two albums by the 3 first named musicians, each side running from the 17 minute version of Orange Lady to 26 minutes. No standards. No filler.
