HISTORY OF THE FRANCESCO TRIO :
The Francesco Trio’s reputation has grown rapidly since its San Francisco debut in 1965. Now recognized as one of the finest chamber ensembles in the country, the Trio has won enthusiastic critical praise for its concerts throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The members of the Francesco Trio, all living on the West Coast, came together from different backgrounds through their common love for chamber music. Their development over the last ten years has taken the m from their first concerts for the San Francisco Chamber Music Society and the University of California at Berkeley to national tours and a residence at Grinnell College in lowa where they succeeded the Lenox Quartet. While at Grinnell, the Francesco Trio became a full-time chamber music group, combining concretizing with teaching. They returned to the San Francisco Bay Area as Artists in Residence Conservatory of Music as Artist-Faculty.
The Trio Made a notably successful New York debut concert in Alice Tully Hall as winners of the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 1974. In addition to several works written for the Francesco Trio, their repertoire includes the standard Classic, Romantic, and Twentieth Century trios including Copland, Ives, Milhaud, Kirchner, and Shifrin. This is their debut recording as a Trio.
