This is the hastily withdrawn first pressing of Happy Mondays' debut album Squirrel And G Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) which includes the track Desmond, which they quickly had to remove due to its, shall we say, more than passing resemblance to Ob La Di Ob La Da by an obscure scouse band called The Beatles. Other album highlights include the original "song" version of Little Matchstick Owen, as opposed to the Rap version on the flip of the Tart Tart single (well, I say "song" version, but Shaun Ryder isn't exactly Otis Redding); a rerecorded version of Oasis different to the version on the Delightful EP, and what is probably the most brazen example of blasphemy ever committed to vinyl (I'll leave you to work that one out. It ain't subtle). On to the record's condition... Vinyl:     Sonically - Absolutely beautiful, at least 8 1/2 out of 10, probably 9/10. I've owned and loved this record for 33 years, there are no scratches, and having just listened through the whole thing, I struggled to even pick up on any background crackle. I think there was one slight strain on a "loud" part on side 2 and that was pretty much it. So, in old money, almost NM.     Visually - Probably 8 or 8 1/2 out of 10. Looks beautiful. You could put it under some strong light and find 2 or 3 wispy lines and similar, but nothing that would affect the sonics. Sleeve (er, sleeves)     Cardboard picture sleeve - On the whole good, just a bit of ringwear/crease mainly on the reverse side (this sleeve is probably the worst aspect of the whole package) and some mild chafing on the edges, in particular the opening edge. Nothing too drastic, so probably 7/10.  Ask me for further details if you are concerned     PVC Sleeve with the title - All present and correct     Outer plain PVC sleeve - A couple of cracks/slits on the sides at the top end, about one inch each. Probably due to the size of this outer sleeve, it always stands out when I open my record box so it will have picked up a bit of wear and tear over the years every time I close the lid I've just realised my photos of the vinyl don't actually show the run out groove messages as I intended, so they are as follows:     A - Do It Faster MPO Fact 170 A1     B - Townhouse Do It Again MPO Fact 170 B1 This is a superb LP (even though producer John Cale didn't quite know what he was letting himself in for), and here's a chance to own it with Desmond, which won't be on the rerelease coming later this month. Apart from some slight scuffiness on the cardboard sleeve and some wear on the plain outer sleeve, this is a really beautiful example.
