Description

The Wolverine Orchestra plays "Riverboat Shuffle" and Susie (take A) on Gennett 5454.
Bix Beiderbecke (cnt); Jimmy Hartwell (cl); George Johnson (ts); Dick Voynow (p, ldr); Bob Gillette (bj); Min Leibrook (tu); Vic Moore (d).  Recorded in Richmond, Indiana on May 6, 1924.
This record is in V+ condition with issues.  It has the following flaws:  a 1-1/4" lam crack that ticks lightly and briefly, and is repaired at the rim with tape; and a 3/4-inch lam crack on the "Susie" side (also ticking lightly and briefly) that appears on the "Riverboat" side only as a shadow not affecting play.  There is also a surface scratch on "Susie" that ticks softly from time to time.  The record plays well generally, but there is some distortion in some of the very loudest ensemble passages.  None of this prevents Bix's gorgeous tone from shining through.  The sleeve has a 3-inch seam split on the bottom but is in good condition overall.
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing.  I know how to pack records.
