Wow! Here’s another! I sold a NM Stereo copy of this famous Very Rare highly collectible record this past December from my personal collection.
This is the very rare original authentic V1 AD Back) see “printed in the USA identifier on cover bottom left vertical and Vee Jay stampers on disc as well as Oval colorband label and songs attributed to McCartney-Lennon).
Why is this record so rare and valuable? Approx 5000 copies were pressed in June of 1963 on the US EMI distributor label Vee Jay records.
Vee Jay was having some financial problems and disputes with their printer also.
They released a few singles in 1963 that didn’t do very well and stopped production on the LP.
They lost their US distributor rights to Capitol Records before the release of this record but were allowed to release it without two of the songs “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You” just prior to Beatlemania hitting America in February of 1964 after their first US visit and appearance on The Ed Sullivan show.
Vee Jay scrambled to get this record out with the replacement songs “Please Please Me” and “Ask Me Why” which was agreed to through the Capitol takeover.
However, under financial strain and also probably realizing their huge missed opportunity they slapped a blank or AD Back cover on the title listings on the back and released the 5000 records they made the previous summer with the two no-no songs on disc.
Only a couple of the title backs of V1 are known to have slipped out and they are so rare they are merry myths at this point!
This is by far the most counterfeit record of all time with no close second!
All the markers of authenticity are very well known and very clear now.
Collectors know what to look for in authentic V1 examples and those markers are depicted in these pics including the cover printing, the spine, the labels, the AD Back cover and the stampers on the discs.
Please review the pics as they are part of the description but show the vinyl has little to no play wear (remarkable!) no needle marks or scratch just smooth glossy shiny vinyl and labels that look like they were made yesterday instead of 67 years ago!
The cover sleeve has a few faults but is in remarkable condition considering someone wrote their name on the top left corner of the back! There are a few edge and spine creases as shown and some type of smudge just above George’s shadow on the front cover.
I assume the smudge is some type of oil- based stain but it has the same appearance as the color of George’s shadow so it is possible this is a print error! If so that would make this record one of a kind to my knowledge as I’ve not seen this before. This is the fifth authentic V1 AD Back copy I’ve owned in my 40 years of collecting and though I’ve owned a mono cover in slightly better condition (no handwriting), this is by far the nicest mono vinyl I’ve seen by far!
People played these records - they didn’t collect them! This one is in (vinyl) is in Mint condition to my eye but I’m calling in NM as I’ve not tried to play it myself.
Returns accepted in same condition as sent with all original packaging in tact.
I ship these VERY CAREFULLY and all components are packaged individually in separate protective sleeves with cardboard protective layering in sturdy protective boxes.
