Original 1st pressing on french EMI Perspectives Musicales -early BIEM(pre-1969, BIEM was the collecting society company in France succeeded in 1969 from SACEM). The same series released also the works of Mauricio Kagel, Johaness Fritsch, Edgar Varese, Christian Clozier, Jacques Lejeune, Luc Ferrari and more. Really interesting is the back cover of the record, featuring critics on Xenakis' work over the years, which isn't at all fluttering, i would say the least aggresive is this comment: "I am horiffied, when men torture women or musical instruments". One of the greatest mathematicians, thinkers and musicians of the 20th Century On this record, one can find the first recordings of his works: "S/T10", "Polla ta Dhina", "Achorripsis", "Akrata". An excellent example of Xenakis' stochastic music or music in mathematical terms applied by computer calculations done by chance. In S/T 10, Iannis Xenakis creates a computer program based on the calculation of possibilities in the labs of IBM France using an IBM 7090. The program after being fed with several elements, must determine the class of timbre, the instrument, the height, the duration, the dynamic force of emission of the sound and much more. "Achorripsis" uses a mathematical law of Poisson to elaborate a matrix, which determines the composition, while in "Akrata" Xenakis makes use of the mathematical theory of transformations. The result is unearthly and very unique...very different from anything else you've listened this far...A historic highly recommended album!!
