The album's concept, a two-disc, four-piece work of symphonic length and scope (based on the Shastric scriptures, as found in a footnote within Paramahansa Yogananda's book Autobiography of a Yogi), was their most ambitious to date.
On release it received notably hostile reviews. Gordon Fletcher in his review in Rolling Stone described it as "psychedelic noodling". Chris Welch in Melody Maker described it as "Brilliant in patches, but often taking far too long to make its various points, and curiously lacking in warmth or personal expression".
Many Yes fans and casual listeners remain divided over whether or not this is one of the group's stronger works. Some Yes fans claim that it is far too excessive and obscure, while others see it as one of the band's masterpieces.

LABELS: The first press grooved, matte picture labels are CLEAN and UNMARKED with NO evident spindle marks. This copy has seen little, if any, play
VINYL Visual: Both records retain their original DEEP, LIKE-NEW, GLOSSY and are practically UNMARKED
VINYL Audio: SENSATIONAL CRYSTAL CLEAR, SHARP, RICH and VERY STRONG AUDIO REPRODUCTION. TREMENDOUS PIECE OF WORK. On playback at a very LOUD volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing - and I adore this LP) there are NO jumps, NO sticks, NO scratches and barely any clicks or pops (really, hardly ANY). The LP plays BEAUTIFULLY THROUGHOUT to an extremely high standard with GREAT CLARITY, NO distortion and NO groove-wear (it's hardly, if ever, been played) and delivers a FANTASTIC listening experience on every front from start to finish. Critically graded as NEAR MINT for audio this is an OUTSTANDING first press copy of an EXTRAORDINARY piece of work
SLEEVE: This sleeve is always incredibly prone to wear and this one does display a little 'ring' on the front and back (nothing major) and a little edge and spine wear (again, nothing major) and a light crease at the top spine edge (please see photos) otherwise, a very fine example of this incredibly easily worn and rubbed sleeve - EXCELLENT
