Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with near moderate, but very fine spindle marks. The record is very clean indeed and offers superb sound throughout.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 146 grams. A very solid weight for this early example.

Rarity: Original plum copies are quite scarce and elusive, in this clean condition especially. This was not a big seller, only after the issue of their third, ‘The Yes Album’ did they get more recognised with sales rising accordingly. It did chart briefly peaking at a lowly 45 in the UK, but failed to break into the US charts at all. Also the US version had very different artwork. This impressive copy is complete with the lyric insert sheet and the very clean, fresh looking record offers superb sound.

Musicians: John Anderson – lead singer, percussion; Peter Banks – guitar, vocals; Chris Squire – bass, vocals; Tony Kaye – keyboards; Bill Bruford – drums, vibes.

Brief Info: Brilliant second album from one of rock’s evergreen progressive bands that contined where the debut left off. It was clear even from these early days, this band were hugely talented and technically ahead of most around at the time. From these early beginnings, things progressed fast and soon they became one of the biggest and most successful within their genre. It was the last to feature Peter Banks, soon to be replaced by Steve Howe. This an impressive early copy that plays superbly and has the original lyric insert sheet.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(–): another unforgiving cover. An unlaminated single format with matt, smooth surfaces. Printed and made in England by MacNeill Press and includes the original lyric insert sheet and a 1970 date-coded inner sleeve.

Cover Front: Gently aged with a moderate toning stain on the bottom edge just left of centre. Other fine traces on the spine fold and near the top left corner, but less evident. In terms of rubbing, very little, some fine creasing is present. A very respectable front with the original matt UK artwork, the American version somewhat different.

Cover Back: The back is similar, again with some patchy toning in places, also a well-faded single name near the top left corner. Very little real wear and minimal creasing this side. The lack of ugly heavy ring wear is always a positive.

Top Edge: Straight with little wear to the white surface, a light and quite small tone spot near the centre.

Bottom Edge: Any rubbing patchy and very light up to the corner ends which have rubbed.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Reasonably sharp with any thickening or burring modestly light. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed.

Spine and Text: This has darkened in places with some patchy compression. But still solid, quite straight with the text mostly unworn as seen.

Corners: Moderate tip rubbing with fine to very fine shape mostly retained. No major knocks, any dinks small and light.

Cover Summary: With clues to age and the faded single name on the back, not for cover purists, but for those who have no qualms to quite light ageing, this will please. Still a highly respectable and challenging vintage cover.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: the original polydor-style polylined inner is again aged with the usual darkening of the paper. But with two crisp undamaged window circles and the lining clear and attached. Some creasing, but nothing heavy as seen, all eges are unsplit with no repairs. Importantly, this is date-coded 30 0770 (30th July 1970), this has no owner’s writing.

The Lyric Insert: EXCELLENT(+): this lyric insert has little to fault with no hard creasing or tears, also avoid toning or marks. It includes the correct 2400 006 catalogue number and is, of course, guaranteed original. Printed one side only and still generally clean and white with very sharp edges. A lovely example that will prove hard to find better.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: a very clean record with fine shine and solidly pressed. One or two very light surface marks are totally superficial and non-sounding – in fact this record plays superbly with clean and focused sound throughout. This no easy task for this more complex type music. Any other surface blemishes very fine and faint as seen with more scrutiny under bright light. A very fine example to please many collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This brilliant early Yes album plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Minimal traces of surface or unwanted sound, the odd gentle hint on the an acoustic passage being very critical, overall, this is an exceptional clean pressing, just the way the discerning listener wants them. Impressive separation, clarity and focus, this copy does the music and band full justice, there are no tracking issues*. Few available ‘plum’ copies will outperform it I feel sure, and nothing of any real note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. YES – this lovely complete example could prove difficult to find significantly better and merits strong recommendation.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
