Otherworldly but not alien, Richard Youngs returns to Black Truffle on a mission to embrace a specific idea and then run with it and see where things wind up. Hidden is two extended tracks, both of which are rooted in randomised arpeggiation created by man and Moog Grandmother, both of which are entirely distinct from each other but obviously connected by process and equipment. The first is the most off-beat and breathy - literally, with the artist sampling his own voice whisper-shouting single syllable motifs while airy samples glide over a glitchy, slightly left-of-the-time hook. In comparison, 'Hidden II' feels more traditionally syncopated and, in many ways, simpler to latch on to rhythmically, like the patient tee-up to a dance floor record which never materialises, but almost might.
