The real interest for collectors in purchasing this album lies mainly in the Pink Floyd tracks, which like the bulk of the other material here was recorded especially for this soundtrack. Even though the film ?Zabriskie Point? would only serve to blot the reputation of director Michaelangelo Antonioni (who previously had directed ?Blow Up? to great acclaim), the music on this soundtrack album has some fine moments, despite the fraught atmosphere many of the contributing artists recorded under, as the demanding director frustrated the musicians with his evasive behaviour. The stand out tracks though, are definitely by Pink Floyd, who were captured in a transitional stage during which they tried to ditch the psychedelic styling of the Syd Barrett era and find their feet in the dramatic prog-rock that would become Pink Floyd?s benchmark. Saved until last on this album, ?Come In Number 51 Your Time Is Up? will be of particular interest to all Floyd collectors as it is essentially a completely different version of ?Careful With That Axe Eugene?.

The appearance of this disc is that of a new piece of vinyl, it is so clean looking, bright and glossy that it really does look never played. A close inspection of the spindle wear shows that this very nearly is the case, the album has quite clearly only ever been played just once. A closer inspection of the vinyl too only shows that this really is a very clean record, with only a couple of small light paper scuffs and brushes. There are no bad marks or scratches, the sound in the run-in grooves is near silent, the most I have to report is the very occasional moment of light crackle at worst. Basically, this is a record that can be accurately described as ?like new?.

COVER CONDITION: NEAR MINT

This is a fully intact album cover that shows only very minor signs of age and handling. There are no bad marks or tears, and the only very few creases that are visible are small and near the spine. The spine itself has only a tiny amount of creasing and a couple of small scuffs, the text remains clearly legible. Likewise, the top and bottom edges are all smooth and without damage. The corners are also fine, with nothing other than the smallest of rub marks. All over this cover there are no serious areas of wear and tear, it has managed to stay in great shape. There isn?t a trace of ring-wear or any other kind of rubbing effect, essentially, this is a well cared for and Near Mint old record cover.
