ZOOT ALORS,issued just the 1 record,the hyper rare 'Send Me a Postcard'/''It's a Crime' on Decca in 1979 (fr13874). However all copies that turn up on ebay are demos.This is a STOCK COPY,which even respectable music catalogues state does not exist.However,here is a copy which is on every serious collector of powerpop wants list.it IS MACHINE STAMPED IN THE DEAD WAX! MINT condition!!!

Stock copies are rarer. *** (demos) **** (stock copies) A Powerpop band formed in 1977 in Nottingham by Kevin Thorpe (gtr/v) and Alan 'Jim' Fearn (gtr/v, formerly of The Favourites, see listing, though he doesn't appear on any of their recordings) with Paul Sneap (b/v) and Pete Pearson (d). After recording an impressive demo tape, in mid-'79 Zoot Alors were signed by Decca: only Thorpe and Fearn relocated to London and the group became a duo. Their one and only single was recorded at London's Air Studios in September, with Lou Stonebridge and Tom McGuinness sharing production duties. Two months later, a few 'advance promotion copies' were pressed by Decca, together with a handful of stock copies which had minimal distribution. SEND ME A POSTCARD and IT'S A CRIME are pleasant melodic '60s flavoured Powerpoppers, well-performed and tightly produced. Both stock and demo copies should be collected as they include totally different mixes of the songs: some synthesizer lines are only featured on demo copies. A second Decca single, TALK TO ME b/w OO BABY was recorded at Pye Studios in Marble Arch with John 'Irish' Earl (see Kilburn & The High Roads/Graham Parker & The Rumour/ Deadringer) guesting on sax, but its release was eventually shelved. In the early '90s, Alan Fearn would resurface with US-hitmakers Blue Train, a group who also included Paul Betts (ex-Favourites). Note: a different group called Zoot Alors released a lone single on the Zoot label in 1984.
