ZOOT SIMS – GOOD OLD ZOOT – NEW JAZZ 8280 – M-/M- MONO PLEASE DOUBLE CLICK ON THE PHOTOS ABOVE FOR A LARGER IMAGE This New Jazz release includes two sessions with Zoot Sims. The first, recorded on March 15, 1950 is a Chubby Jackson session and per the personnel is: Howard McGhee, Al Porcino, Don Ferrara (tp) J.J. Johnson, Kai Winding (tb) Charlie Kennedy (as) Zoot Sims, Georgie Auld (ts) Gerry Mulligan (bar,arr) Tony Aless (p) Chubby Jackson (b) Don Lamond (d) Tiny Kahn, Al Cohn (arr). Their selections are: LEAVIN’ TOWN; FLYIN’ THE COOP; HOT DOG and SO WHAT. The second session was recorded on July 16, 1954 and it includes: Stu Williamson (v-tb-1,tp) Zoot Sims (ts) Kenny Drew (p) Ralph Pena (b) Jimmy Pratt (d). They perform: HOWDY PODNER; INDIAN SUMMER; TOOT NO. 2 and WHAT’S NEW. This is a Zoot Sims session. It’s the first time on LP by Prestige Records. This is a MONO recording. I’ve graded both the vinyl and the record jacket as M- as there are no marks or any sign of wear on either side of the vinyl. There is no sign of wear in or around the spindle hole and the vinyl retains its original shine. The record jacket is completely clean with no sign of wear.
