For auction is the ZOOT SIMS QUINTET's "Zoot!" on Riverside RLP 12-228, MONO, DG, 1956.

SOUND: VG

It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. The playback is "good-and-bad." The "good" is, the entirety of side A, and part of side B, sound excellent. Very nice, without reservation. A touch of soft surface noise here or there, nothing you wouldn't hear in a VG+ record. The "bad" is, an area of recurring "ticks," beginning at the end of B2, "Fools Rush In", through B3, "Osmosis," and ending about 90 seconds into B4. The "ticks" are of medium volume from the start, becoming soft volume about half-way through B3 until they end about 90 seconds into B4. As impartially as I can say it, the ticks were a little bothersome at the end of B2, because it's a soft number. B3 is a louder number and the ticks didn't interfere as much. I believe "VG" is the valid grade because of this problem-area. 

VINYL: VG

Visually, the vinyl really looks nice all over but for one trouble area. Alas, three parallel scratches, at least one which can be felt, beginning at the end of B2, "Fools Rush In", through B3, "Osmosis," and ending about 90 seconds into B4. The aural effects are described above. It's too bad, because, as I said, the rest of the vinyl is very nice. Th record is on white "mike-and-reel" labels with deep-grooves on both sides.

COVER: VG+ 

The cover is excellent. The edges are solid with minimal wear. The bottom 2 corners are both bumped and a bit frayed. Both the front and back covers are fairly clean and both unmarked. Both front and back show modest, routine wear. Overall, a very nicely preserved cover.

The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics. 

A very well-preserved copy would be quite valuable. This particular copy has one flaw that drops the vinyl grade down to VG. That said, you can absolutely enjoy and play this record from start to finish. If you're looking for this record, this will be a good value if you are the winning bidder! No reserve, with a $20 opening bid.

Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability. 

Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.  

If you're into this stuff, you might want to save me to your seller's list and check back periodically. I'll be putting a lot of vintage jazz records up for auction.
