Description

ZOOT SIMS – THE MODERN ART OF JAZZ – DAWN 1102 – EX/EX – DG – MONO

Recorded in New York on January 11 & 18, 1956, this Dawn session features Zoot Sims on tenor, Bobby Brookmeyer on valve trombone, John Williams on piano, Milt Hinton on bass and Gus Johnson on drums. Side 1: SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN; DOWN AT THE LOFT; GHOST OF A CHANCE and NOT SO DEEP. SIDE 2: THEM THERE EYES; OUR PAD; DARK CLOUDS and ONE TO BLOW ON. The LP is a deep groove pressing. This is a MONO recording.

I have graded both the vinyl and the record jacket as EX for the following reasons. The vinyl is clean of any marks, except for Side I Cut 3, where there is a slight one but it does not interfere with play. The vinyl still has a gloss to it. The record jacket just misses a M- grading but there is just enough wear on the cover to make it an EX. The liner notes are very clean and no taped seams.
