The Hobbit by J. R. R.Tolkien narrated by Nicol Williamson 4 LP box set Argo division of Decca Records cataloge number ZPL 1196/9
VINYL CONDITION: NEAR MINT SLEEVE CONDITION: NEAR MINT BOX CONDITION: VERY GOOD+
This set was opened and never played. There are no scratches to the vinyl. There may be some scuffs but I have not found any pronounced that would offer trouble. Some surface dust. I have not attempted to remove it. As far as this set is concerned it is exceptionally rare to find one in such great condition! The sleeves are not torn. The box is clean and has a few dings (see photo). The booklet is included in the box set.

This is, without question, the quintessential narrated version of The Hobbit. Total running time is about 3½ hours
The narration is entirely by Nicol Williamson and his use of regional British accents and tones brings the characters alive in a way that nothing else even approaches.
Decca/Argo don't appear to be interested in re-releasing this on CD which is a pity, so if you can get hold of a vinyl copy do so and don't settle for anything other than the Nicol Williamson version - if you do, you may be rather disappointed.
In summary, this is one of the great classic stories for children of all ages and Nicol Williamson's beautiful narration will make you laugh and cry in equal measure. I cannot recommend this too highly. If it isn't a collector's item now, it will be before long. Get it if you have the chance - even if you have to buy a USB turntable to get in onto your iPod
