*** wonderful 1950s or 60s Cuban/Puerto Rican Folk LP ***
Rare 1950s or 60's Cuban/Puerto Rican Son, Bolero's, Guajira's and Capricho's. Tardes Dominicales (guitar) together with Cuban music treasure and legend Guillermo Portabales on vocals and guitar?
Guillermo Portabales (born José Guillermo Quesada Castillo, Rodas, Cuba, 6 April 1911 – San Juan, Puerto Rico, 25 October 1970) was a Cuban singer-songwriter and guitarist who popularized the guajira style of Cuban music from the 1930s through the 1960s. His languid, melancholy, intensely lyrical guajiras and his elegant, stylish singing made him popular throughout Latin America, where he is still revered. He died on October 25, 1970 while crossing a street in Puerto Rico late at night. He used to perform at a restaurant called Las Palmas in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico and while leaving the restaurant he was hit by a car and dragged several feet.
Superb recordings on this rare LP. All stuff by Portabales is worth checking out from his early 78s to his last recordings around the time of his death. We urge anybody who likes this LP to check out the Portabales' album "El Carretero" released on CD by World Circuit in 1996 (a superb album much like this record)
