        Jazzy trippy femme folk with some avant jazz moves somewhat in Erica Pomerance camp. Same label as Faine Jade. Didi Favreau was a composer, lyricist living in the village in the sixties and early seventies. Also known as Dee Dee Favreau -- she sang at Gerde's Folk City, The Bitter End and other Big Apple coffee houses. Hooked up with jazz musicians. Recorded REBIRTH OF WONDER in New York City in late 1968 and released on RSVP Records early 1969. Wrote all the music and lyrics except the verses on Baby Blue which came from Fitzgerald's translation of Omar Khayyam's The Rubiyat. Played in the Avant Guard Jazz Festival in New York in 1969.

    This LP is treasure -- a top 10 “to take to a desert island” album. Readers of reviews generally want to know what kind of music is on this album, who the singer resembles, etc. You cannot slot Favreau’s music into any of the usual genres. There are touches of modern blues, Latin folk and smoky jazz all stirred into a pot of lyrical urban stories that touch upon all emotions. This pulsating/soothing/unpredictable music plus Favreau’s self-penned lyrics express what she wanted in 1969 and none of it sounds dated. Lotza creativity that went into this project. Stunning recording!

Musicians include Pat Rebillot (keyboard), Bill Takas (bass), Sam Brown (guitar), John Beal (bass), Arnie Lawrence (alto sax), Dave Frishberg (keyboard), Don MacDonald (drums), John Stauber (guitar), Richard Bock (cello), Bob Dorough (harmonica & voice), and Markie Markowitz (trumpet).
