rare scottish folk album by MIRK (old scottish word meaning the darkness) titled MODDANS BOWER, the village of bowermadden in caithness,where the group is based,takes its name from the norse word "bur" meaning a storehouse and moddan,who was an earl of caithness.moddans bower was therefore the storehouse of moddan.released in 1979 on the london based MOTHER EARTH LABEL catalogue number MUM 1205,this is the original pressing featuring the royal blue label with silver print.the record itself is in near mint condition,ie it has hardly been played,there are no scratches,scuffs etc,the label has no spindle marks.the sleeve has no rips,tears,or holes,just a wee bit of discolouration which is to be expected on a 30 year old album,i think you would be hard pressed to find a better condition copy.listed in the 2010 copy of THE RECORD COLLECTOR RARE RECORD PRICE GUIDE AT £175.00,this is therefore a very reasonable starting price.tracklisting- 1.AS I CAM OWER THE MUIR O'ORD. 2.THE PLOUGHBOY LADDIE. 3.THE KEECH IN THE CREEL. 4.THE CRUEL MOTHER, 5.BOWERMADDEN. 6.SLEEPY TOWN. 7.FLOWER OF NORTHUMBERLAND. 8.BRUNDENLAWS. 9.THE KINGS SHILLING. 10.THE GLASGOW/CAITHNESS CENTENARY GATHERING. this lp features -Ian sinclair (scotland), Margie sinclair (scotland) and Ray crompton (england).the album is produced by SAFFRON SUMMERFIELD.
