I put this up for sale in September but removed it due to negative and, in one case, abusive comments about me selling this item. I have put it back up for sale as it is my right to sell any item I choose to and it is up to any bidder to bid without having to justify why they have done so. It's simple really, if you want to buy this item place a bid and if not, don't. It seems that people had been passing comment on MA forums saying that this item is not real and to avoid it at all costs but I can assure you that it is and it's really unfair, especially when any big fan of an artist would buy something they find interesting themselves and I'm sure many fans have bootlegs of their own, as we do when we are collectors! I've collected many rare items on my travels and this is just another one and, regardless of whether anyone else has seen this or not I can assure that I'm not in the habit of ripping anyone off, as you can see from my feedback. Sorry for the lecture, now on to the listing....
I bought this from a record fair in Birmingham approx. 10 years ago and was told by the seller that it was a test pressing. I've never seen it listed on Discogs or anywhere else and so obviously it isn't and as a long time MA/SC fan I knew that this was unofficial. That is the only background I have on it's origins and, to be honest, I was so excited by it when I saw it I had to have it! I would say that someone had it made for them (at a cost I imagine.)
Basically it's a 10" of Mutant Moments. The sound quality is superior to the original 7" which was quite crackly/dull & quiet due to the large amount of playing space on the 7" but the tracks can't be a lift from the 'Bedsit Tapes' / 'Demo Non Stop' as they don't fade out/fade in as they do on these versions. There is some slight hiss at the start but the quality is good and there aren't any audible scratches to be heard.
The tracks follow the same format as the 7" but there is no track run out groove at the end of 'Potential' (I did have a 7" bootleg which was the same.) Also, the lead in groove on both sides starts quite far into the record (think old 78) and it plays at 33rpm but otherwise it plays exactly the same as the original would. It comes with a replica postcard which is larger than the original and is white and not the cream colour of the genuine ones. There are some slight surface marks which don't affect play but it's been well looked after and it's in great condition.
The cover is thick and glossy, looks great and wraps around at the back like the original 7" does and the labels are the same as the bootleg 7" labels (in that they're white and not cream) and all in all it's a really nice item and something quite unique. I am selling this as I've sold a lot of my collection, including my genuine and bootleg versions of this e.p. and this is one I've been hanging on to but, in all honesty, my priorities lie elsewhere these days and so it's time for it to go and I just want it to go to someone who'll appreciate it for what it is.
