Description

Waite Hoyt - the Best of Waite Hoyt in the Rain. 1963 Personality WHLP-537. Cover = VG+. Record = VG. Waite Hoyt was considered the dominant pitcher for the 1920's Yankees (he played on the Babe Ruth teams) and is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He pitched in several World Series and had a lifetime W/L record of 237–182 and an ERA of 3.59. By the time he retired in 1938 he had pitched the most victories in World Series history (his World Series record with the Yankees and A's was 6-4).
He was a big time drinker during his career and after he retired he was a longtime AA member. Which made it kind of ironic that the album cover shows him carrying a case of Burger beer at the Reds Crosley Field, because after baseball he went into announcing and when he became the Cincinnati Reds play by play guy, they were his main sponsor. He was well known for his stories in the Cincinnati listening area and this album is full of those stories as he told them during rain delays while broadcasting Reds games.
