the Jazz Scene Signed by 11 Lester Young Rare 78 lp

this auction is for The Jazz Scene, a 1949 set of 6, 78 rpm 12 inch records, of all exclusive sides, sold as an extremely deluxe set with 29  full page photos   by Gjon Mili , Harold Trudeau, and Paul Nodler, as well as an original fold-out david stone martin drawing- all in a heavy ring binder, limited to 5000 numbered copies, all signed by Norman Granz.  Granz produced this with his own money,  and intended to put out a set every year to capture the essence of "the Jazz Scene" each year.

this set was obtained as part of a huge collection from a lifetime jazz lover, who brought it to several concerts and meetings in the early fifties, collecting some significant signatures to go with the one of Norman Granz. 
 
the set is signed by Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Buddy Rich, Flip Phillips, Bill Harris, Ray Brown, Hank Jones, and Harry Edison on the title page. much later Oscar Peterson signed the page as well, in ballpoint pen. Ella Fitzgerald signed on the back of the David Stone Martin drawing.

 the pages are removable, so this page, and the photos can be removed and framed without damaging the set.

I did play the discs on a 78 player and found no skips, but there is surface noise and cosmetic flaws. the labels are clean and the spindle holes are almost perfect, but there are a few  needle runs and other typical 78 flaws.

a few  of the last photos have a bid of paper stuck on the bottom from separating  the pages  after they had been stuck together, still these  pages are intact and the largest of these flaws is a just an inch in area. these same photos have a bit of wear from the weight f the set laying flat, but most of the photos are near perfect, as the ones I have shown.

there are no tear on any pages, the record envelopes are all crisp, the binding is in fine shape.

obviously the signatures are guaranteed to be authentic, I stand behind this and would promise double your money back as assurance,  there are many reputable experts in autographs available  if you need for  appraisal  / insurance purposes.
