Description

This is a 7" reel of tape made by Maxell from my collection. The library box, spool and tape is all in good condition. It's about 1800 feet long by ¼" wide. It's professional quality tape with tape leaders at both ends, and should be great for recording anything you want.

There is a recording on it at the moment, being all the number 1 hit singles for the year 1966. Plus all the number 2 hit singles for that year. And 6 that got to number 3.

Now what is it about 1966 that made that year unforgetable? Was it Freddie Laker setting up cheap package holidays? Was it Arkle, winning the Gold Cup for the 3rd successive year? Could it be Labour winning the General Election? A hovercraft service from Calais? Surely it must be the launching of the first British Credit card, from Barclays? Not the Reverand Ian Paisley being jailed for breaching the peace? Then it must be Francis Chichester embarking on his lone round-the-world voyage? No? Well, 1966 was an incredible year for so many reasons. Lord Thomson bought The Times newspaper. Soviet spy George Blake escapes from prison. In the theatre, the musical Oliver! ends a record breaking 6 year run. The Moors murderers were jailed for life. But eclipsing it all was England surging to a dramatic World cup win over the mighty German team. The home of football was won at last by the home team for the first time (and the last time). Still, what a marvelous year it was for music too.

I'm a mine of information, huh? Now I'm offering the tape but I know I'll get asked about the tape content details. As that might be construed as an attempt to sell what is on the tape, I will invite the curious to email me for a detailed listing. Which you can do using this link:

Bruce@Aingemusicfactory.co.uk

As you can see from my picture, there is a tracklisting on the library box, which is there for the sole pupose of identifying this reel in my collection.

I'm selling my collection of tapes, so this one must go. I originally put the music on the tape for my own pleasure, recorded on a 4 track recorder at 7½ ips using the optimum settings and tweaked to improve the overall frequency response, it sounds excellent. It isn't a commercially made or a commercially available reel of tape.

If you want some assurance, here is some recent feedback:
