Description
Excellent, guaranteed original, 1968 Psych/Rock LP by THE MINT TATTOO entitled "Mint Tattoo" on Dot Records (#25918, Stereo). Killer Hard Blues-Psych rocker from the West Coast, - a strong mix of self compositions and playing in a guitar trio format... two of the three ended up in BLUE CHEER (see 1969's New! Improved!, Blue Cheer 1970 and Blue Cheer Original Human Being Lp's for members of Mint Tattoo). The original DOT records printed inner sleeve is included! The album cover is a specially designed 'window' gatefold cover... which reveals a magnificient set of woman's breasts! MINT TATTO, devoid of any progressive formulas, featured Bruce Stephens (vocals, guitar), Ralph 'Burns' Kellog (bass, keyboards) and Gregg Thomas (drums). They recorded one album for DOT in 1968, from which the single "I'm Talking About You/Mark of the Beast" was also released in 1969. Stephens and Kellog went to Blue Cheer and played on their 1969 "New! Improved" Lp in 1969. Always been well off the beaten path, now collectible for sure. THE MINT TATTOO is sort of a Blue Cheer "spin off" band ... filled with melodic hard edges with cool guitar leads and such, yet isn't as ear-poppingly loud as the Cheer's first two — though the raunchy fuzzed 'Talkin' About You' is as powerfuliiy gritty & heavy as anything on the 2nd Blue Cheer Lp. The majority of the album is filled with inventive hard rock that isn't weak in any particular area. It's a classic grower with repeat plays and better (more consistant) than some of Blue Cheer's post-Leigh Stephens records. Tunes include: "Sister Bleu," "Leper's Epitaph," "Policeman's Ball," "Littal Lieu Lieu's Revenge," "Faces Of Roses," "I'm Talking About You," "Wrong Way Girl," "Scorpio," "Woman," "Mark Of The Beast," "Moanin," "With Love," and "I Hear The Spirits." Condition: Cover = solid VG+ (light wear, no seam splits, small notch mark in the lower left hand corner), Record = solid VG (light paper scuffs - plays through fine though!, small name written on both sides of the labels). Winning bidder to add $3.50 postage in the USA. Good luck - check out my other auctions for more vintage records for sale and save on combined postage costs!
