 This is one of several old 78 RPM FRENCH DANCE ORCHESTRS TEST PRESSINGS that I will be listing.  I have no idea who the Orchestra is, or the players featured on them.  They could be a real find for someone who knows their history!



This record starts off with semi-hot, semi-corny Accordion lead, nice solid dance band rhythm with Sax chords behind it. Then a vocal in French, with an almost Trumbauer-ish Sax filling in behind it. Then a damned fine swinging chorus of Piano & Guitar on their own...then back to a standard ending, swings but not hot. Crisp. I hope the labels on these will help someone identify the orchestra and who may be in it. Could be a real treasure. It's a delight to listen to. And I have no idea if it was ever released either.

 

Ok...Here's what I know about these recordings. I can't speak French and haven't a clue who are on these records I'm listing. About 25 years ago, I was at a huge flea market in Paris. I came upon a booth that had a few records in it. They seemed to be test pressings so I bought them. The guy then said, "Would you like more of these?" Well, ok...if you insist.  Pulls out a box with about 30 more test pressings. The price was more than right. He then told me his father had made these recordings. I asked him what instrument his father played. Answer..none. He was the engineer who recorded them. His father passed away many years before, and this guy said he had a cellar full of these that he would like to get rid of! My heart sank because I was going back to the U.S. the next day. When I got back and played them...Wow! I wish I could have bought them all. And they were close to perfect in condition.

No scratches, and almost flawless - nothing that compromises the sound at all.  Sounds wonderful! I'll be listing quite a few old 78RPM records from a huge collection, so keep checking my listings.
