This is one of several old 78 RPM FRENCH DANCE ORCHESTRS TEST PRESSINGS that I will be listing. I have no idea who the Orchestra is, or the players featured on them. They could be a real find for someone who knows their history! One sided...
Ok..This one reminds me of the type of Boy-Girl on a date in those early musical films. Mostly a vocal effort. The number is very catchy, kinda sticks with you for awhile, even when you don't want it to. The jazz element of this recording is limited to the piano player who embellishes the vocal that sound a bit like what Frank Signorelli did on those Bix And His Gang sides. Just a damned fine record and fun to listen to!
Ok...Here's what I know about these recordings. I can't speak French and haven't a clue who are on these records I'm listing. About 25 years ago, I was at a huge flea market in Paris. I came upon a booth that had a few records in it. They seemed to be test pressings so I bought them. The guy then said, "Would you like more of these?" Well, ok...if you insist. Pulls out a box with about 30 more test pressings. The price was more than right. He then told me his father had made these recordings. I asked him what instrument his father played. Answer..none. He was the engineer who recorded them. His father passed away many years before, and this guy said he had a cellar full of these that he would like to get rid of! My heart sank because I was going back to the U.S. the next day. When I got back and played them...Wow! I wish I could have bought them all. And they were close to perfect in condition.
No scratches, and almost flawless - nothing that compromises the sound at all. Sounds wonderful! I'll be listing quite a few old 78RPM records from a huge collection, so keep checking my listings.
