Description

An original very 1st stereo press of this title on the UK Parlophone label from Xmas-1966. Matrix 1G/1G. Stampers 1-RG/3-RG. Please note the large font employed on the labels [particularly on the "STEREO" text] is exactly how the very 1st stereo copies would have looked like at 1st release. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original Ernst J Day cover. Also included is a generic white inner from the time.
Vinyl (Ex) A lovely looking copy which has only seen light use. Under close inspection there are quite a few of what I would describe as "bag-rash type marks". These are very superficial and will not enter the audio spectrum. Also, I'm noticing a slight warp only observable on side 1 measured at maximum amplitude of 1MM [this does not impact the audio at all]. If any of this is the sort of thing that puts you off - probably best concentrate on looking for another copy. But, if you're prepared to look beyond this then I can guarantee a very impressive rendition from this very early and collectible 1st stereo press. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. By and large a terrific rendition of these Beatles classic tracks. Not much to find fault with in reality - it is a very fine player. The only track which was a marginal disappointment [and therefore drops below the given grade]..is "Michelle". Typically a very fussy track and this example plays fine with the odd crackle here and there. I would argue this track plays around "average" - whereas the rest of the LP plays cleaner and "well above average". In fact, "Yesterday" & "Submarine" [super fussy tracks] - play much cleaner than you tend to find. So, overall a very nicely preserved original early copy which will thoroughly impress.
Cover (Ex-) Might grade a touch higher, but for that knock to the bottom right corner on the rear. A very nice clean and unaged front with just a couple of creases. The rear seems to have escaped much of the usual ageing you tend to find. But don't miss the damage to the bottom right corner. It's all secure - and purely cosmetic. Edge wear is very slight and the spine in excellent order with all text legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Lightest ageing. One bottom seam split [has been tape repaired].
