Long before Ryan Adams became synonymous with sprawling studio albums and tabloid chaos, there was a hushed, half-mythologised collection of recordings passed between fans like contraband. Recorded at the beginning of his solo career and circulating for years through low-quality bootlegs, this finally official release captures the North Carolina songwriter in an unusually exposed state. Tracks like 'Wild Flowers', 'La Cienega Just Smiled' and 'Cracks In The Photograph' carry the bruised intimacy of unfinished diary entries, and then 'Firecracker' and 'Miss Sunflower' reveal flashes of warmth beneath the exhaustion. Even now, these recordings retain a faintly uncomfortable closeness, as though Adams never expected anyone else to hear them.
