ANDREW HILL - THE POINT OF DEPARTURE
Great condition copy of this 1966 highly collectable US Blue Note 1st press rarity with outstanding MONO audio quality
Year/Label : 1966 US BLUE NOTELabel number : BLP 4167
Matrix numbers : BNLP-4167.A, BNLP-4167.B (hand etched), with "VAN GELDER" machine stamped on both sides
Gleaming with jet black sheen excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl - most would grade as "near mint", I am sure - completely flat and virtually unmarked. If you look really closely under a bright light you may just be able to detect one or two small and extremely faint scuff marks...obviously purely superficial. Clearly, this record has been sparingly played. Each label is excellent plus with the only blemishes being just a couple of extremely faint spindle trails on each. Note the "NEW YORK USA" text on each label, synonymous with very early pressings of this record. Very good plus (VG+) - bordering on excellent - condition and highly presentable original thick cardboard outer sleeve with all of the colours, art work, photos and text remaining impressively intact. Each edge remains firm with just a few intermittent light scuff marks on the bottom edge. Each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with only minimal rubbing though there is a little compression on the bottom right corner. There is no fraying on either of the opening edges. The spine remains rigid with all spine text perfectly intact. The reverse side remains impressive with just a few very light age/storage/handling marks - each of these blemishes is trivial but I have tried to show them in my photos so please do take a look.. Note the "43 West 61st St., New York 23" text at the bottom of the reverse side of the outer sleeve - another early pressing identifier. Superb, excellent plus (EX+) MONO audio quality with no clicks, skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, interference, distortion or background crackle. Fabulous tone and crystal clear audio quality throughout - superb, with very track remaining a great listen with legendary musicians Kenny Dorham (trumpet), Eric Dolphy (alto sax, flute & bass clarinet), Joe Henderson (tenor sax), Andrew Hill (piano), Richard Davis (bass), and Anthony Williams (drums) each at the top of their game. Comes with original and great condition "27 YEARS BLUE NOTE" advertising inner sleeve, with no seam splits, tears, edge fraying, creasing or obvious age discolouration - wonderful!
A brilliant condition copy of this Blue Note rarity with the MONO audio quality being simply sublime! Hard to believe that this copy is 57 years old - amazing!
