ANDROMEDA LP (1969) RCA-VICTOR SF 8031: Very Rare, EX+ Vinyl, EX Cover.

This is a excellent copy of an increasingly rare LP from the late 60s’ English psychedelic/progressive era - Andromeda’s self-titled debut (and only) album, on RCA (1969).

This LP - Serial Number is RCA SF 8031 is a much sought-after collector’s item. Here’s a chance to obtain an original copy in excellent condition! The Matrix Number on the run-out groove on both sides of the LP is XGBS 0094-1.

My vinyl collection is stored properly in smoke, pet-free and brat-free home, in a furnished dry room environment; discs have only been played on a high-quality transcription hi-fi system.

This orange-label RCA Andromeda vinyl LP is thus in at least excellent condition and the front-laminated sleeve is VG condition..

There are creases to the top-left album cover corners and spine, slight ring-wear on the front and a few marks on the top-left rear of the cover. No splits, tears, lamination lift or significant damage is present. The disc is in excellent, near-mint condition with minimal wear or playing noise.

I only have one copy of the LP, so the market will decide what it is worth! It can be collected by the auction winner from me in north Birmingham B24 - I’m close to Jn 6 of the M6.

I’ve owned this album from new since the turn of the 70s, then being a fan of Atomic Rooster upon their formation, which rock fans will know was formed by Andromeda guitarist/vocalist John Cann.

Though I liked the album, it hasn’t been played much at all – I preferred my Atomic Rooster and contemporary psychedelic faves such as YES, VDGG, King Crimson and others!

Andromeda was a blend of psychedelic/ progressive rock and jazz - an early guitar-driven ‘power trio’, which lasted for only this album. They were formed in 1968, by John Cann, who prior to Andromeda and Atomic Rooster was formerly a member of The Attack.

Guitarist John Cann (guitar), Mick Hawksworth (bass) and Jack Collins (drums), had recorded a psychedelic rock disc: ‘The 5-Day Week Straw People’ - a concept album which is also now coveted by collectors. A band was then formed and Andromeda was born.

They recorded BBC radio sessions for John Peel’s Top Gear programmes in 1969 and were scheduled to record on Peel’s Dandelion label. They signed to RCA to record this self-titled album.

Andromeda toured with Black Sabbath and recorded live radio performances. The Who’s Pete Townshend showed an interest in producing them - but ultimately the band was released from RCA and made only this LP.

Despite critical acclaim, Andromeda failed to gain commercial success. Du Cann left to form Atomic Rooster with Vincent Crane and Carl Palmer (from The Crazy World of Arthur Brown) - and the remnants of Andromeda split up soon afterwards.

NB: I am sure this is a 'first pressing' copy, as it is heavy vinyl (not the lighter 'Dynaflex'-type RCA Victor pressings used on their later releases), and my copy has a digit "1" stamped on the run-out grooves on both sides of the LP.
